HARBERTON RANCH – NAVIGATION TO PENGUIN ISLAND (COMBINED)

We leave from Ushuaia, taking de National Route 3, crossing winter centers, and stoping at panoramic points, to enjoy the landscapes of South Patagonia.
Shortly afterwards, we take the Provincial Route «J», a little traveled road, of singular beauty for its insertion in the Fuegian forest.
After 30km. , we reach Brown Bay, from where we can see Puerto Williams (Chile) on the south coast of the Beagle Channel. , Harberton Ranch is 15 km from there. In the way to the ranch we will see typical birds and the traditional flag trees.
The Harberton Ranch, considered of high historical value, was founded in 1886 by the Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges and his wife Mary Ann Varder. It is the oldest “estancia” of Tierra del Fuego, maintaining its original construction of wood and corrugated sheet, it quay and terraces of native stone.
There we can visit the museum «ACATUSHUN» of birds and marine mammals.
It is currently run by Thomas D. Goodall’s great-grandson.
From there we will cross the Beagle Channel in zoodiac to theMartillo island or Yecapasela..
During the navigation we can see typical seabirds such as petrels, skuas, cormorants, seagulls and albatrosses.
Once in Martillo Island we will make a short walk to the colony of penguins where we share with these birds their natural habitat for 1 hour.
There we will know their customs and habits, their offspring and nests the different species with their particular characteristics. We will start our way back to Estancia Harberton, to finish the tour in the city of Ushuaia.
