EXCURSION TO LAKES ESCONDIDO AND FAGNANO

Approx. duration: 7-8 hrs.

Departure from hotel. We head northwards on National Route Nº3 to access an area of mountains and glacial valleys.

We’ll be crossing many points of interest: the mouth of the Olivia River, the Velo de Novia (Bridal Veil) waterfall, the Carbajal Valley Lookout, the Alvear range, and winter resorts with cross-country skiing trails, such as Tierra Mayor, Las Cotorras, where you may visit breeding centers of the dogs used to pull the traditional sledges every winter season.

Also, we’ll pass by the Complejo Cerro Castor (a downhill skiing resort).

We’ll arrive at Paso Garibaldi (a pass 450m above sea level), the only place in Argentina where the Andes mountain range is crossed from-and-to Argentina). From this panoramic point we’ll enjoy a breath-taking view of lakes Escondido (Hidden) and Fagnano.

Then, we’ll start the descent. We’ll stop by the shores of Lake Escondido to go for a short walk, and then we’ll go back on the route by the Valdez River Provincial Reserve until we reach Lake Fagnano, one of the 4 major lakes of Argentina. Finally, we begin the return trip.

Given the extension of this tour, you’ll be able to taste the Fuegian lamb “al asador” (barbecued) at any of the Tourist Centers to be agreed. You’ll have other menu options to choose from as well.

*Full-day Lakes tour includes the above plan plus a visit to Tolhuin and to the «Corazón de la Isla» (Heart of the Island) Provincial Reserve.
